blog entry : 3B

The beginning of the book was so boring. It gets better when Nick finally meets Gatsby and things start happening. The characters are considered selfish. When Gatsby asked Nick to make him and daisy meet again, Nick didn’t think about tom or what it would do to daisy, he just did what he wanted. Tom is also selfish because he had an affair and when he learned that daisy was having one too he was so mad and didn’t realize that he was doing the same. One my difficulties is understanding Nick and the character’s, but I’m sure I’ll know when I read further into the book. The author tries to prove a point that the American dream is to get money. They all try to impress each other such as Gatsby organizing big parties just to impress Daisy and the same with Nick and Jordan’s love story. I actually like the great Gatsby so far, because the author’s message of the American dream being money is real. I like the way he shows the message through these selfish characters and by making them the new rich. He also implies that the money, business, and treachery will lead to a bad ending and the characters will commit bad things at the end.

blog entry : 3a

The 1920s also called the Roaring twenties was the decade from 1920 to 1929. During that period, there was a rise in the use of technology, art, science and music. There was an economic boom right that came after World War I. People were more interested in fashion and new designs. Women started to have more rights and there was more individual freedom. More and more women were sent to school, but men were still treated better. New sports such as baseball and basketball were very famous and people became entertained and wanted to play more sports. The 1920s was ended by the great depression, when the stock markets crashed.

BLOG ENTRY 2C

I’m satisfied with the ending of the book, because I love the way the book ends. Catherine and heathcliff both end up dead at the end, and I like the fact that the two main characters die at the end. Throughout the book heathcliff changed so much. He is the most dynamic character in the novel. Heathcliff at the beginning of the book was innocent and was the one being tortured. Then he disappeared for about 3 years and became mean. He wanted revenge and to torture the people who caused him grief before. He also became very wealthy and powerful but his love for Catherine stayed the same. The themes of the books are universal, because revenge and love are common themes in every novel. The love between heathcliff and Catherine did not die even after their death, because heathcliff still believed her spirit was around and he still feels her and wanted to be buried next to her. He expresses her absence by saying: “In every cloud, in every tree—filling the air at night, and caught by glimpses in every object by day, I am surrounded with her image!”(Bronte, Wuthering Heights chapter 23). He says that even though he lost her, every sign and thing in the world reminds him of her.There intense love led to the revenge and rage heathcliff felt. My final thoughts about the novel are simple. Heathcliff and Catherine both died and that was a nice ending because heathcliff died because he was just sad and lived in pain and Catherine fell ill because of all the problems and the very idea that she will never be with heathcliff again, even though they are in love. “I got the sexton, who was digging Linton’s grave, to remove the earth off her coffin lid, and I opened it. I thought, once, I would have stayed there, when I saw her face again” (Bronte, Wuthering heights chapter 29). Heathcliff’s death was similar, since after her death he became ill and died.

BLOG ENTRY: 2B

The reading so far is going well. I was struggling with the English but I managed to understand. The main character is heathcliff. He is an orphan brought to live in Wuthering heights. He was raised by Mr. Earnshaw, who really loved heathcliff. This made his son very jealous, therefore tried to make his life hell, when his father died. Earshaw’s daughter falls in love with heathcliff and they are inseparable. Later on in the book, Heathcliff is powerful and fierce because he tried everything to seek revenge for the people who causes him grief and made his life miserable. Heathclifff is considered complicated because it’s hard to know whether he is mean and cruel or if he it’s just the way to express his sadness and frustrations. The major theme of the book so far is revenge. After Earshaws death, Hindley takes over Wuthering heights and makes heathcliff work in the fields and stop education. He treated him badly because he never liked him and he was so jealous of him when his father first brought him home. But then heathcliff goes away and when he comes back, he had his plan to seek revenge too. Another theme possible could be the intense love between heathcliff and Catherine. This love is what shaped the book and made Heathlicliff seek revenge more when she married Edgar. Another theme is the all the differences in the societies. Catherine made a speech to Nelly saying: “It would degrade me to marry Heathcliff now; so he shall never know how I love him; and that, not because he’s handsome, Nelly, but because he’s more myself than I am. Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same, and [Edgar’s] is as different as a moonbeam from lightning, or frost from fire.("Wuthering Heights. New York: 1847. Print.)This shows the social differences, because if she marries Heathcliff it’s going to be a social disgrace but marrying Edgar would make her a powerful and respected woman. I predict that Wuthering heights is going to end with Nelly’s story coming to an end. I hope the story will have heathcliff seeking revenge but maybe run away with Catherine even though she’s married, but we will see what’s really going to happen. I am enjoying the book because of all the drama and of all the things happening one after the other. I’m sure there is not going to be a happy ending, so I’m excited to read the rest of the book.

WUTHERING HEIGHTS


Picking a book to read this summer was a very easy task for me. Personally, I hate reading boring books and reading in general. When I went to the library, I wanted Frankenstein but they were all out, so I had the choice between Wuthering heights and pride and prejudice. I took Wuthering heights because it looked sad and I didn’t want to read any lovy dovy love story. I have no idea what the book is about but I know it’s sad and has a lot of emotions. The author of the book is Emily Bronte, who published Wuthering heights in 1847. Emily Bronte was born in 1830 in Yorkshire, England. She had a difficult life since her mother and 2 of her siblings died. She was inspired by many poets and authors, such as William Shakespeare and she wrote many poems with her sisters. The author seems passionate and spiritual and I hope it will be reflected in her book. The book is 279 pages long which are aloooottttt of pages to read. My fear is that I will be struggling to understand the book, because the English seems very difficult for me. I hope the book will be interesting and not a stupid and fictional story. I hope it will be unpredictable and different from other novels.

BOUTY'S SUMMERRRR



Bouty’s plan for the summer is exactly what everyone needs to do. She is going to stay in Casablanca for the month of June but she will be going to Mohammedia, which is so nice and the beach is extremely beautiful. Then she will go to Spain and its going to be amazing and a great way to spend some time with her family. Ramadan is everyone’s problem and we will be sleeping all day and everything will be fine.

Sara’s plan for the summer is amazing. I’m sure she will have the best time of her life, if she chooses to do crazy stuff with siham: P. They are going to Miami with EF, which stands for education first. I have friends who already tried this program and they had some fun, but the girls who went there were very very crazy. The only problem with Sara’s vacation is that she has classes in the morning, so I don’t get why she is going. Summer is all about relaxing and not thinking about work, but I’m sure it will be worth it.

My Summer Vacation

I can’t believe the school year will be over in exactly one week, and next year, I'll be a senior. All I can think about is summer, and all the exciting things I will be doing. To prepare for my last year of high school, I will also start looking for schools im interested in and I will contact some tennis coaches to discuss my scholarship. After finals, I'll be practicing tennis everyday to prepare for the tennis championship. Then, on the fourth of July, my amazing and beautiful cousin is getting married, and I'm really happy for her. Right after her wedding, I'll be going to Egypt to play two international tournaments. I will stay there for only two weeks, coming back to Morocco and leave for Kabila. It's a place in the city of Tetouan, which is north from Casablanca. In Kabila, I'll enjoy my vacation and have fun with my friends. Almost three-fourths of the Moroccan people go to Kabila because they own beach houses, boats and jet skis there. People go to Kabila for it's incomparable beach, and because it's closer to Spain, which we usually end up visiting for a week. This summer is going to be very short, since Ramadan is going to be on the eleventh of August, and so we are going to have to prepare ourselves. This is going to be the shortest summer I will have in my life, but it’s also going to be the best.
